Into the Fire

me and you

So when my feature on the New York Dolls in last week’s Boulder Weekly was picked up by the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies website, it felt partly good…but something inside me was irked that they can do whatever they want with my articles without telling me or paying me.

Look to your right: in “pages,” some of my recent articles are available for your perusing, enjoying and criticizing. Here I am creating something that’s ostensibly mine, a blog where I’ll catalog my published musings on arts & culture (with a focus on music) and talk a little off the top of my head from time to time: what I’ve been listening to, where I’m traveling, what goes on in my mind. But first a little history…

My name is Adam Perry and I’m a 28-year old writing and literature student at Naropa University — I’ve been playing music (drums, guitar, bass) in bands and on my own since age 9, and writing about music for newspapers since I was 14. My second book of poetry (Fotographs of Bones) was just released by Monkey Puzzle Press this spring, and I’m spending this summer in Santa Fe with my incredible partner and her family…though I’m actually writing this faux historic first post from my memory-filled old apartment in San Francisco.

Anyway, I’ve blogged before but it was mostly a case of me dorking out about sports — I’m a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins fan — and using the blog as an outlet for poetry before I was involved in the great community of writers in Boulder. This blog will be much more focused on music and journalism, but who knows what’ll happen…
