RIP Pete Seeger, American hero. “My one hope is that the guitar is gonna be mightier than the bomb.”
We lost a true Founding Father last night. The courage, talent, wisdom and influence of Seeger cannot be overstated, but my personal favorite part of Seeger’s past is that he dropped out of Harvard “to ride a bicycle across the country.”
Working for veterans on a daily basis, Seeger’s legendary sing-along “bring ’em home / bring ’em home” frequently rolls through my head while I sit at my desk. Without Seeger, there may not have been Dylan, the Clash, Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine, Crass, the Subhumans, and on and on.
Don’t let this day go by without playing some Seeger for yourself, and your kids…
